About us:

The outer western region of our service includes extremely remote communities. Cairns Hospital is the only major referral hospital in Far North Queensland and also provides care for people from Cape York and the Torres Strait.

The Cairns Public Health Unit (CPHU) team consists of a director, public health physicians, public health nurses, environmental health officers, epidemiologists, data managers, project officers, medical entomologists and administration officers. CPHU works collaboratively with, and supports, a range of organisations including other health services, other government departments, local government, non-government agencies, research institutions and local communities.

Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates specialist environmental health clinical knowledge, skills and risk-based decision making to manage the day to day delivery of environmental health services, across multiple specialty areas and across multiple Districts and/or multiple sites, to develop evidence-based options and implement appropriate interventions and enforcement strategies, with minimal supervision.
  • Provide high level specialist clinical advice and prepare comprehensive reports and submissions to management and key internal and external stakeholders on a daily basis. Represent environmental health on local, district, Area and Statewide committees as delegated.
  • Operationally manage a team of environmental health officers and environmental health technicians or a multi-disciplinary team, including resource allocation to deliver environmental health programs, projects and research across multiple-Health Service Districts and/or multiple-sites.
  • Apply advanced level leadership skills in environmental health through continual professional development and through reporting of outcomes and key learning's identified in the day to day delivery of environmental health services.

Qualifications / Selection criteria

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) evidence as required for your employment in accordance with legislation/government policy and Directives.

Duties/ Responsibilities

Reporting to the National Executive, this National Executive Officer position is the key liaison contact for the organisation and provides the implementation of administration and financial management.

Qualifications / Selection criteria

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • Understanding of finance and office administration, including accounting and company compliance requirements.
  • Expertise in research, and concise report writing skills to produce documents that are appropriate for the purpose and audience
  • Comprehensive computer skills including extensive experience; of standard office systems, accounting packages, and the ability to embrace technological innovation in the workplace.
  • Knowledge and understanding in payroll processing, personnel functions and legislative provisions.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the proven ability to manage time effectively and work as a member of a team or as an individual, within an environment subject to competing priorities and change.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills including communication, consultation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, including the ability to effectively manage relationships with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in organisational communication, publicity and/or publications
  • Experience in training and supervising staff
  • Experience with the university sector and education and training and the Australian Quality Framework

As the Team Leader Environmental Health Service (WaSH) you will provide operational leadership for the Environmental Health Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) program, supporting the delivery of high‑quality environmental health services that protect and improve public health outcomes across the Cairns and Hinterland region.
