11.5 Food Premises - Home Occupations

Summary Information

Low risk food premises that do not prepare potentially hazardous food items can be permitted in a residential kitchen. Generally, most Local Government’s allow the following food to be made at home; cakes, biscuits, muffins, flour products, jams, chutneys, preserves, relishes, sauces, pickled onions and repackaging of bulk products such as confectionary. Food beyond this scope is approved based on the facilities provided by the premises and the discretion of the local government. A proprietor will need to complete a home occupation application with the planning department in addition to health approval.
