Summary Information

Odour complaints may be received concerning residential, commercial or industrial premises. If a business is emitting offensive odours determine of the premises is licensed or prescribed by the DEC as they may have conditions they are required to comply with. Odour logs, similar to noise complaint logs, can be useful to investigate odour concerns. Using a compass to measure wind direction and an anemometer to determine wind intensity can be useful when the odour source cannot be identified.
