Annual Branch Conference 2009

The 2009 conference was hosted by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and held at Twin Waters Resort, Mudjimba Beach, Sunshine Coast from 24-27 May 2009.  Despite some disruption by the swine flu, delegates agreed it was an excellent conference.

Final program is attached for your information.  The Conference Proceedings will now be collated and forwarded to all members in the near future.

70th Annual Branch Conference - Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise - Sunday 23 - Wednesday 26 May 2010

Theme: Environmental Health: Turning up the heat on the coast ... action steps to a better result

The 70th Annual Environmental Health Australia (Qld Branch) State Conference willl be hosted by Gold Coast City Council and held at the Crowne Plaza, Surfers Paradise from 23-26 May 2010 and followed on 27 & 28 May by a Noise Management workshop.

The success of the conference relies on a contribution of papers, and therefore, the conference organising committee invites you to submit abstracts based on identified key issues ...... (see call for papers attached).  Deadline for submission of abstracts 1 February 2010.

Workshops

Contemporary Food Safety Training Course - Monday 22 to Wednesday 24 February 2010 - Brisbane Hilton

Arrangements for the 2010 Contemporary Food Safety Training Course have now been finalised. As a result of surveys undertaken at previous Food Safety Training Courses, the course will be run over 2.5 days and maximum numbers will apply - so please register early.  The course will be held at the Brisbane Hilton, 190 Elizabeth Street, Brisbane in Meeting Room 83 (Level 8).  Registration from 8.30am daily. Environmental Health Risk Management Workshop - Thursday 28-Friday 29 January 2010 - QUT

The purpose of this workshop is to update and inform environmental health practitioners on - (1) the basic procedures for assessing risk for a variety of environmental health issues; and (2) the appropriate use of regulatory tools for the management of environmental health risks.  The workshop will consist of a series of presentations and scenario-based activities.  Topics covered are outlined in Workshop Overview.

Noise Management Courses

The noise workshops provided in 2009 were again very well received.  Our facilitator, Frank Henry B.App.Sc (Environ Hlth) has 20 years practical experience in noise and pollution management in local government including noise complaint investigation, planning assessment and policy development.

The next Noise Management Course will be held in conjunction with the Annual Branch Conference on the Gold Coast - dates for the course are Thursday and Friday 27 & 28 May 2010. Registration form and accommodation booking form now available.

Disaster Management for Public Health - Cairns: 23-28 August 2009

Participant feedback from the 2009 Disaster Management Course indicates that it was another very successful week.  As this Course is extremely popular and places fill quickly, please register an expression of interest for 2010 by emailing the Executive Officer at qld@eh.org.au.
